Before you can sell with us you must register as a contributor, agree to the contributor contract
and accept our terms and conditions.
Once your account is open you can upload images from your device onto Art
Image Library’s platform for authorisation when we will check whether the images
you intend to license meet our compliance standards.
If the images are approved, low resolution versions are water-marked with the Art Image Library
logo and automatically become visible in the Art Image Library gallery where they can be searched,
viewed and the high-resolution version licensed by prospective buyers all around the world.
You can manage the uploading and submission of your images using our folder system.
We will check the details you provide including title and artist name and the
keywords proposed. If we need to edit these we will do so. Once the images have been
accepted by us you can view them in our gallery.
Image buyers, who are registered to accept our terms and conditions, will then be able to
choose our standard licences to suit their needs and they will be able to download an
unmarked high resolution version of the image on payment of the licence fee.
Art Image Library splits the licence user’s fee 50:50 with the contributor (minus 20 percent
VAT) and this will automatically be credited to the contributor’s bank account within 45 days.
If you require bulk uploading please contact us.
Do I have to pay to join Art Image Library and upload my images?
No. Art Image Library is a free service. All you have to do is register to be
able to upload your images to My Art Images. If they are approved by us they will
be made available for licensing and you will get 50% of any net fee paid to Art Image Library.
Can I sell actual artworks on Art Image Library?
Yes you can. Once you have registered as a contributor you can use the Uploader
to submit actual works of art for sale on the platform.
If you are the artist you can market your work for sale and generate additional
income by licensing images of the art that you have created.
Can other people see images on My Art Images?
My Art Images is an entirely private page which can only be seen by you and from
where you can upload and manage your images before sending them to our curators
for approval. If they are approved you can track your image statistics, like views and purchases.
How will I know if my images are approved and how long does it take?
If your images are approved then they will automatically show in our searchable
gallery for others to download and license. If we need more information to approve
them we will contact you or we will let you know if your images have been declined.
If my images are declined will I still be able to use Art Image Library?
Yes. You can submit other images or even the same ones but this time ensuring that
the images conform to our standards.
How will I be paid and when?
Contributors are paid 50% net of any fee received by Art Image Library for the use
of their images. You will be paid directly into your account 45 days after we have
received the fee from the licensee. You can track purchases and payments in your
Account under Financial.
If you are selling an actual work of art then we will be in direct contact with
you to negotiate terms with the buyer.
What does subject artist mean?
The subject artist is the creator of the work of art in the photograph rather than
the person who took the photograph. The person who took the photograph has a
photographic copyright but the subject artist or their estate might have a copyright
too if they haven’t been dead for 70 years or more (read more).
Can the photograph be the work of art itself?
Yes. Original artistic photographs are considered works of art in themselves.
What if I am the subject artist and I photographed my work?
Then you own all copyrights in the image.
Why do I have to agree the Contributor’s Contract before I can upload my images?
All contributors have to agree to our terms and conditions and agree to the contributor’s
contract to confirm that they are the copyright holder in the photographs they are providing;
otherwise we cannot publish the images.
What are model and property releases and when do I need them?
These are short legal documents that are signed and dated by the relevant parties.
Where images portray real people you need to check that you also have their permission
to use the image commercially. This can apply even if the person is unrecognisable,
for instance even if only their hands are portrayed.
A model release is normally used to grant permission and as a photographer you
should seek one, or if you are an agent check that the photographer has one on
file before you begin to licensing the use of an image on their behalf with Art Image Library.
Further permissions may need to be cleared for trade-marked products on display
in an image, for example a can of Coca Cola™ which clearly displays the brand Coca Cola™
Where an image focuses heavily on a particular brand or product or in some cases a
landmark building you will need a property release.
In most cases where you are dealing with a photograph of a work of art (for example
a painting) these releases won’t be applicable.
My art image was published but I wasn’t credited by the publisher why did this happen?
We do everything we can to give information to publishers that identifies the creator
or copyright holder however we do not control what publishers print and therefore we
cannot guarantee you will be credited after a publisher has paid to use an image.
How can I delete my images?
Before your images have been placed in the Approval folder you can delete them
by placing them into the bin. To delete once images are approved you will need to contact
us on approvals@artimagelibary.co.uk.
They will them be taken out of the gallery by our curators
according to the notice period in your contributor contract.
